Vegan Beatin' in the Philippines, day 2: Exploring Port Barton and the first meal

paradise~ photo taken by VeganBeats
Getting into Port Barton, we had to check ourselves in and find a place to crash. We met a friend on our jeepney that recommended Summer Homes Resort. The rooms were affordable, electricity was on for two four hours blocks throughout the day, there's wifi, a restaurant, and it's right on the beach! (It's genuinely hard not to be really) We spent 750p a night (20,000원, about $18.00) for a room with a clean bathroom, huge sun-welcoming window, a fan, and a big double bed! (the staff is awesome, kick it here.)
After throwing our bags and jugs of water down our tummies started grumbling (so beer, nuts, and bread isn't the way of the game, eh?) Our friend who mentioned our new home (!!!) highly recommended a restaurant! But before I get into the noms...here's my cat (he stayed with us often) Mingming!!!

Now...the restaurant is called Jumbalayas, ...

It's right off the beach front, houses the coldest beer on the island (no really, it does) and offers a lot of vegan yumms!
The drinks menu boasts of ginger infused jams, coconut milk pina coladas, etc...what did I go for?

For a main meal, I went with the stir fried veggies with a bed of steaming rice. The veggies were not the usual peppers, potatoes, and slobs of onions...I got carrots, zucchinis, pumpkin, cabbage, sweet onions, garlic, and mushrooms!! It was light, flavorful, and more than generous portion-wise.

While sipping on cold flavor-filled drinks, filling my tummy with nutritious food, and setting sights on the crashing waves...the lounge-loving life was embracing me...

The beach was glorious, and being that it was a temporary home, my heart was dancing in glory....soaking in the vitamin D, eating up the sun, stretching my feet in the sand and bathing in cool salt water, the adventures were waiting around the corner...

Good Beer~

photo taken by VeganBeats
Dumpling night I had plans to go out with a great soul, so naturally I missed out on tasting any of them plumpy dumps...
I've stated this before, and I don't mean to sound to snobby about it but Korea lacks good beer...and due to that~ the partnership of great people AND great beer as a couple is a challenge. There are plenty of great people but finding a great ale or stout or IPA takes some effort. While kicking it stateside my buddy brought me out to a towny bar and we knocked back a couple beers (I can do two now)!

I've never been a beer gal, give me some wine or a cocktail but beer leaves me resembling (and embodying) Homer Simpson. I prepared myself for beer by NOT eating very much of anything and...well I became Homer. (sorry Ryan).
I won't provide details but~ broke another bone...

Assah~

Vegan Whip Cream and...IPA!!

Man it's been a while! Internet is working towards some sort of manipulated "order" and my life plans are...getting slightly more solid. But only slightly.
A legit vacation is quicly approaching and I have plans set~ Vietnam~~
My vacation prior to this was at school numero uno and I didn't get very much notice so I spent a lot of it kicking it at home and...honeslty sleeping. This time, I'm going somewhere else in Asia and meeting up with a good buddy!
Plans are fuzzy, shooting more towards adventure. Motorbikes, exploring, beaching it, laughing, fruit nomming...living, loving...bliss!

Anyways...since last post, I've been everywhere, checking out shows, trying new restos, eating too much fruit, sweating new pimples....pics are still loading up (comp issues still....) But here are two sneak peaks.....
fruits and vegan whip cream!!! (photo taken by VeganBeats)
Went to a buffet (Loving Hut chain) in Gangnam and they had vegan whip cream...not one for sweets and fats but..hell....had to.

Also this past weekend FINALLY checked out the raved about 'Craftworks Taphouse & Bistro' near Noksapyeong station. The beer is brewed there, and...I heard rumors of an IPA.  I met up with Kia and Sean (it;s been ages) and caught up over more than a couple beers and had quite an adventure getting to them. (Missed the bus, traffic jam prevented the right drop off, wandered an extra mile...oy oy) but it was worth it.
Upon landing, I already knew what to get and anxiously waited for this hoppy lovely beverage to touch my lips and...flood my mind with memories and taste buds with joy.

and YUM!
BQ crew back home...wish we were together knocking these back again....cyclono anyone?
Finding good quality beer is not...an easy trade here. I never drink beer here, not because I hate it, but because when it comes to beer, I've been a tad spoiled. Vermont has local breweries, brown ales, IPA's, home brewing hoppiness...here, Hite and Cass just don;t do it for me. What I'd do for a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale....le sigh

Anyways, back to it. This weekend was filled with two beautiful and wonderful Seouls, Kia and Sean. Loads of love to them for...always being so kind, generous, genuine, and fun!!

Until next time... more pics and more updates!!!
